Smith's walk-off single sends Tribe to 3-2 win over Eagles

JACKSONVILLE — The win came on Senior Day in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville (9-20) trailed, 2-1, going into the home half of the seventh.

Cash Cleaver came in as a pinch hitter and doubled into the gap in right center for a double to get things rolling for the home team.

Cleaver than moved over to third when the ball got past the Rusk catcher on the third strike to Brett Eckles.

When the catcher finally came up with the ball and threw to first to try to nab Eckles, Cleaver dashed in from third to tie the score.

Brayden Rawlinson then moved Eckles over to second when he got aboard on an infield error on a mishandled bunt.

That set the stage for Smith to do his game-winning magic, whcih brought Eckles in from second to plate the winning run in walk-off fashion.

Ruston Diers earned the complete game victory on the mound for the Tribe.

He allowed two runs on three hits (all singles) and struck out five while walking a pair of Eagles.

Michael Crews pitched the seventh inning and absorbed the loss for Rusk (14-13).

Eagle starter Morgan Johnson turned in a strong effort in pitching five frames of scoreless, one-hit ball. He fanned five and walked one.

Jadarian Skinner, Houston Munsinger and Crews accountted for the Rusk hits.

Jacksonville managed to get just three safties in the game. Aside from the final-segment hits, an Eckles single to left to lead off the fifth was the Indians' only other hit.

Rusk left four men on base while the Indians stranxded two. Each club made two errors in the contest.
