Rusk's Arrington, Townsend earn trip to regionals
PALESTINE — Two members, Octavian Arrington and Shayla Townsend, of the Rusk High School track and field team garnered places in the upcoming regional meet after recording top-four performances at the District 19-3A/20-3A Area Meet on Thursday at Wildcat Stadium in Palestine. Arrington came in second place (131'-5”) in discus, while Townsend was the runner up in 100 meter hurdles. Townsend ran a 17.06.
TAPPS 4-3A Softball: Lady Guard double up Canyon Creek
RICHARDSON — Brook Hill's Lady Guard outscored Richardson Canyon Creek 10-5 in a TAPPS 4-3A softball game that took place in Richardson earlier this week. Hope Cooper, Ari Assad, Ivy Suddeth, Taylor Schultz and Morgan Brooks had two hits each to spark Brook Hill. Schultz had Brook Hill's only extra bass hit, a triple. Schultz was the winning pitcher of record.
JMS Tennis: Braves, Maidens excel at Kilgore tourney
KILGORE — Jacksonville Middle School netters picked up a couple of first-place finishes in the recent Kilgore Middle School Tournament. Hannah Roper went 3-0 to take first in girl's singles, while the JMS duo of Seth Bonner & Abraham Silva won both of their matches to take the crown in boy's doubles. In other action, Jorja Johnson & Nathanial Crawford teamed up to score a third-place finish in mixed doubles. In girl's doubles, Ashlynn Peacock & Galilea Galvan won fourth, as did Adam Verhelle & Evan Yount in boy's doubles.
18-3A Softball: Troup moves to 12-1 in district with latest victory
TROUP — Troup honored its seniors, Ronni Boyer and Katelyn Standley, on Tuesday evening by bombing Frankston, 15-0, in three innings. Caitlin Tomlin went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, Josee Ross also homered in a 2-for-3 effort and drove in three. Standley went 2-for-2 with a triple and a RBI while Bethany Mason recorded a 2-for-3 game. Ross pitched the two-hit shutout for the Lady Tigers (12-1 18-2A). Ross fanned 10 Frankston hitters in the game. Troup was slated to close out the regular season at Winona this morning (9 a.m.) and will host Class A power Harleton in a warm-up game on Apr. 26 at 7 p.m.
Jacksonville College tennis to offer several mini camps this summer
Jacksonville College head tennis coach Mark Robbins will be conducting several mini camps this summer which are targeted towards junior players, ages 14-18, who aspire to play at a collegiate level, or simply want to improve their game. The program will focus on technical and pre-competition aspects. Camp sessions are scheduled for, June 3-6, June 10-13, june 17-20, June 24-27, July 8-11,July 15-18 and July 22-25.
