GILMER — Gilmer clinched the District 16-3A title Saturday afternoon by edging second-place Bullard 2-1.

Bullard lefty Zach Eschberger did his part by allowing just three hits over seven innings and striking out nine while walking one, but the Panthers couldn't muster up the needed run support behind him.

The Panthers managed five hits in the game, with Haden Bryant's 2-for-4 effort leading the way.

Bryant had a double and drove in a run.

Also collecting hits for Bullard was Holden Bryant, JP Hendrix and Trevor Rumbelow.

The loss dropped Bullard to 20-8 overall, 8-3 in District 16-3A.

The Panthers host Spring Hill (7-4 16-3A) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the final game of the regular.

A Bullard win would the panthers second-place in district.

Should Bullard lose the game, the Panthers and Spring Hill would be tied for second and would have to play a game to determine playoff seeding.

Bullard defeated Spring Hill, 6-5, when the two clubs met in Longview in late March.
