Tribe tennis slams Sulphur Springs to even record

Jacksonville was able to even its overall record at 4-4-1 Saturday when the Tribe tennis team stuffed Sulphur Springs 14-5 in a non-conference match that was played in Wills Point.

The Tribe dominated all facets of the match with the Jacksonville boys winning three of five singles matches.

Christian Roper defeated Sant 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, with Israel Garcia stopping Wilson of Sulphur Springs 6-3, 7-5.

Jacksonville's other win came at No. 5 singles where Andres Ferretiz won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

The Tribe girls captured five wins in singles play in addition to taking a victory in an exhibition match where Carolina Landin won 8-1.

Samantha Lee (No. 2) downed Sutton 6-4, 6-1 while Lorena Mireles tripped up Smith 6-0, 6-4.

In other matches, Lexie Stickle topped Martin 3-6, 6-0 (5) and Shyia Magan earned a 6-7, 7-5 (8) win over Winborn.

Allison Singleton tripped up Burns 6-1, 6-0.

Turning to doubles, Roper & Garcia paired up to post an 8-3 decision over Johnson & Philo, while the Jacksonville duo of Chris Shoemaker & Juan Martinez crushed Allen & Wilson 8-3.

The Tribe also went 3-for-3 in girls doubles, where Lee & Kristie Savage edged Smith & Cook, 8-5. Lee & Kristie Savage took down Smith & Cook from Sulpher Springs 8-5.

Mireles & Magan breezed to an 8-3 win over Martin & Suttonwhite.

Finally, in girls doubles, Stickle & Singleton blasted Burns & Winborn 8-2.

Jacksonville also came away with the point in mixed doubles where Landin & Ferratiz won 8-5.
