JACKSONVILLE —

Rusk Eagles (2-3) at Carthage Bulldogs (4-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Bulldog Stadium in Carthage

Head Coaches: Ted Patton, Rusk; Scott Surrett, Carthage

Last Week: Rusk 47, Brownsboro 34; Whitehouse 63, Carthage 39

Next Week: Rusk at Fairfield; Carthage at Huntington

Quick Take: The Rusk offense came alive in a huge way last week, behind the rushing duo of D.J. Glenn and Drew Dorsey who combined for 6 TDs and 228 yards...On the flip side Carthage lost for the first time this year to Class 4A power Whitehouse...Rusk appears to be playing its best football of the year, at least offensively, right now which is a plus for the Eagles...Look for the Dawgs to be fired up after losing last week and anxious to get back in the good graces of the large homecoming crowd that is anticipated for this one...Dawg defenders have given up 79 points in the past two weeks, so this one could be a high scoring affair...Rusk's defense will face its toughest test of the year against a potent Carthage offense...With both clubs set to begin their respective district campaigns next week, look for getting things right to be at a premium.

Bullard Panthers (2-1, 0-0 in District 16-4A) at Kilgore Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at R. E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore

Head Coaches: Shannon Wilson, Bullard; Mike Wood, Kilgore

Last Week: Bullard was idle. Kilgore 41, Spring Hill 12

Next Week: Gladewater at Bullard; Chapel Hill at Kilgore

Quick Take: The “$64,000 Question” in this one may just be how will the Panthers respond after having the past TWO weeks off...Two weeks ago Bullard's game at Huntington was washed out when a storm system opened up over Huntington, making the field unplayable and last Friday the Panthers enjoyed their bye week...Kilgore is ranked No. 3 in this week's AP Class 3A poll...Bullard QB Connor Mebane has been one of the top dual threats at QB this year in the region and will need another big game for the Panthers to have a chance in this one...After Coach Wilson has had two weeks to scheme and game plan, this one could be closer than some may think...If Kilgore is looking ahead to next week's meeting against Chapel Hill, Bullard could pull off the upset...Kilgore has outscored its foes 187-46 this year...The Bulldogs won last year's meeting, 27-14.

Brook Hill (2-2, 1-0 in TAPPS 2-2A) at Dallas Shelton (0-3, 0-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Stadium in Carrollton

Head Coaches: Bobby Brasher, Brook Hill; George Teague, Dallas Shelton

Last Week: Brook Hill 24, T. K. Gorman 22; Prince of Peace 40, Dallas Shelton 22

Next Week: Trinity Christian-CH at Brook Hill; Dallas Shelton at Grace Community

Quick Take: This is not one of the stronger Charger teams...Shelton has struggled on offense this year, scoring just 40 points in three games...Brook Hill, although faced with a long road trip, should have some confidence after winning a thriller over rival Gorman last week to open district...Shelton returns 11 starters from a season...Guard defense continues to improve behind the play of Malik Alley and Blake Maddox.

NOTE: Jacksonville, Troup and Alto have open dates this week.
