High School Football: Area Roundup Week 6

Rusk, Troup and Alto to open district play

Rusk Eagles (2-3, 0-0) at Fairfield Eagles (6-0, 0-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Eagle Stadium in Fairfield

Head Coaches: Ted Patton, Rusk; John Bachtel, Fairfield

Last Week: Carthage 44, Rusk 7; Fairfield 55, Glen Rose 7

Next Week: Palestine at Rusk; Fairfield at Groesbeck

Quick Take: Last week Rusk took on the No. 6-ranked team in Class 3A; this week the Red and Black must face the No. 7-ranked team to open conference play...Rusk faces another gigantic hurdle, but the experience that the team got in last week's game should go a long way in preparing the R-Eagles for this week's test...Rusk's defense must rise to the occasion as Fairfield has scored 50 or more points four times this year...Fairfield averages 491 total yards a game.

Gladewater Bears (3-3, 1-1) at Bullard Panthers (2-2, 0-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium in Bullard

Head Coaches: Jarrod Baugh, Gladewater; Shannon Wilson, Bullard

Last Week: Gladewater 41, Spring Hill 10; Kilgore 49, Bullard 7

Next Week: Kilgore at Gladewater; Bullard at Chapel Hill

Quick Take: Bullard will be looking to snare its first league win on Friday against a solid, although not over powering Bear unit...Gladewater has already equaled last season's win total, so Baugh has the Bears headed in the right direction...The Panthers need another good showing from Dillon White, who rushed for 96 yards in last week's loss to state-ranked Kilgore...Micah Hughes led Bullard in tackles last week, with five...If Bullard can get the passing game going, look for good things to come the Panthers' way.

Troup Tigers (4-1, 0-0) at Jefferson Bulldogs (3-2, 0-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at W. F. Lockett Stadium in Jefferson

Head Coaches: Dennis Alexander, Troup; Derek Simmons, Jefferson

Last Week: Both teams were idle last week.

Next Week: Tatum at Troup; Jefferson at Sabine

Quick Take: Simmons is in his first year as head coach of the Bulldogs...Jefferson returns six starters on each side of the ball...Bulldogs' wins have been over Elysian Fields, Hooks and Texarkana Pleasant Grove, who have combined to go 4-12...Coach Alexander said that his team needs to be more efficient and tie up some loose ends as they head into district and if they don't they will not win very many games...Jefferson will have to find a way to stop Troup QB/LB Blake Lynch, who has been a beast thus far this season...This one could be a high scoring affair...With No. 5 Tatum looming on the horizon next week, the Tigers can't afford to get into a hole early on in the conference race.
