Volleyball Roundup: Troup keeps district record perfect with 3-set win over Sabine

TROUP —

The 16th-ranked Troup Lady Tigers rolled to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) sweep of No 20 Sabine on Friday in District 18-2A play.

Cheney Cover led Troup (22-12, first place in district) with 11 kills, three blocks, 14 digs and an ace. Josee Ross added nine kills, eight digs and two aces, Carly Dyess had five kills, 19 assists, eight digs, one block and four aces, Paeton Nolan finished with two kills, five blocks, five digs and an ace and Bethany Mason had 15 digs and two aces.

Sabine (26-9, 8-3) was led by Haley Stuart, who had seven kills and one dig. Brittany Terry added six kills and five digs.

Conference play continues for both outfits on Tuesday when Troup journeys to Harmony and Sabine returns home to battle Arp.

Troup (23-12, 11-0), coached by Arden Johnson, held on to its No. 16 state ranking in the latest TGCA poll, which was released Monday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers have not lost a single set in district play this year.

Meanwhile, Sabine tumbled to No. 27 in the Class 2A ranking.



 

Fish gets career-best 19 kills; Lady Panthers sew up playoff spot

NEW CHAPEL HILL — Mackenzie Fish racked up a career-high 19 kills in Bullard's 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) triumph over Chapel Hill Friday afternoon at Bulldog Gymnasium. The win elevated the Lady Panthers to 21-14 overall, 5-5 in district. Bullard also clinched a post-season berth with the win. Other leaders for Bullard were, Ashley Searcy with 10 kills and four blocks, Katie Cole who added 11 digs and three aces and Rachel Kelley (13 assists, nine digs). Madi Hodges also had a career-best 32 digs. The Lady Panthers have an open date Tuesday and will entertain Henderson at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Bullard also was victorious in the freshmen match (25-10, 25-22) and in the junior varsity tilt (25-16, 25-21).



 

Maidens knocked off by red-hot Whitehouse

WHITEHOUSE — The Ladycats of Whitehouse improved to 6-1 in District 16-4A action by easing past Jacksonville 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-14) Friday afternoon at Wildcat Arena. Kaitlyn Anderson led the winners with seven kills. Jacksonville (0-7 16-4A) will be in Corsicana Tuesday night looking for their first conference win. Whitehouse won both of the sub-varsity matches by identical 2-0 counts.
