Lindale rallies in final 6.5 seconds to nip Indians, 59-55

LINDALE —

 

 Lindale locked up the final playoff berth in District 16-4A by coming from behind and scoring a touchdown in the final 6.5 seconds of the game to top Jacksonville 59-55 at Eagle Stadium Friday.

The Eagles defeated Corsicana last week and are now 3-6, 2-2, with one regular-season game left on the docket.

The Indians dropped to 0-9, 0-4 as a result of the loss.

Jacksonville quarterback, Carter McCown ran for 253-yards and two scores, and added another 360-yards via the air to account for 613-yards total in the game but it was his last minute drive that almost won the game as he ran in from 8-yards with 36-seconds left in the game..

However the old hook-and-lateral to Aaron Jackson from Eagle QB, David Slice was good for 73-yards, set up a touchdown pass from Slice to Justin Willis for the final seven-yards, with .6-seconds left in the game for a thrilling 59-55, win.

The Lindale Eagles made three interceptions and recovered two Tribe fumbles to take a lead most of the game until McCown and company got rolling. at Eagle Stadium in a 16-4A battle.

McCown rambled 52-yards for a score with 7:24 left in the game. The PAT pass failed to make it a 52-48, Lindale lead as the Indians picked up momentum.

The final Jacksonville score started with the clock at 3:33 left in the game, and the Tribe at their own 8-yard line.

The Tribe (0-9; 0-4), appeared to be headed to scoring first as Tribe quarterback, Carter McCown made a 62-yard run down to the 16-yard line of the Eagles. Two plays later, McCown threw his first of three interceptions to halt the Tribe threat.

The Eagles marched 80-yards in seven plays before Delerius Garrett blasted in form 7-yards away. The Jordan Lawless PAT kick was true for a 7-0, Eagles lead.

Lindale’s, Nathan Evans made the second pickoff of a McCown pass in the next Tribe possession at their own 45-yard line.

Two plays later the Eagles connected on a 55-yard scoring toss from Slice to Tayton Williams, and the PAT kick added on made it a 14-0 affair with 19-seconds left in the quarter.

The Tribe made the most of a 21-yard kick off return by Lakendrick Anderson at the Eagles, 27-yard line.

Two plays later McCown found Lane from 22-yards away, and the Ryan Travis PAT boot made it a 14-7 score after one period.

A dive up the middle was fumbled by the Indians, and Garrett was the man on the spot as he scooped the ball up and ran in from eight-yards away for another Eagle TD..

The Indians, strung together a quick 1:57 drive that was capped off by Braylon Parish running in from five-yards, and the PAT kick made it a 21-14, Eagles advantage.

Aaron Jackson clipped the 100-yard mark as he scored on a 15-yard sweep, and the kick made it a 28-14, Eagles cushion. Jackson rambled for 156-yards in 21 carries in the first half alone.

Jackson totaled out with 40 carries and 287-yards, good for one TD.

McCown went to the air in the next drive and capped off the 52-yard drive with a 27-yard pass to Trent Sansom for the score, and the extra point made it a 28-20.

The Eagles came right back at the Tribe and booted a 33-yard field goal with 32-seconds left before intermission.

Jacksonville attempted another last minute score with a long pass that was intercepted for T.J Griffin’s second pick of the game and a 31-20 score at the break.

The Indians surprised the Eagles and recovered an on-sides kick at the Lindale 37-yard line.

The next play, McCown scrambled and ran down the left sideline for an untouched scoring run, and the kick made it 31-27.
