NEW CHAPEL HILL —
Jacksonville defeated Troup, 6-3, and just missed knocking off the Mavericks of Marshall, who edged the Tribe, 4-3, in Friday's action of the Chapel Hill Tournament.
After losses to Chapel Hill (7-0) and Gilmer (10-7) on Saturday, the Indians concluded the weekedn with a 2-4 record.
Brayden Rawlinson tripled and drove in three runs in Jacksonville's conquest over Troup.
Rawlinson also did double duty as he also held the Tigers scoreless over 4.1 innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The game was a see-saw affair before Jacksonville pulled it out in the seventh inning.
That's when Rawlinson's triple allowed Guadalupe Muniz, Brad Triplett and Richie Gutierrez to score.
Chris Holcomb singled in Cash Cleaver in the opening frame to put the Indians on the board. Cleaver had ripped a base hit earlier in the inning.
Against Marshall, the Tribe outhit the Mavs, 10-5, but had trouble scoring runs.
Once again, it was Rawlinson who swung a mean stick as he collected two hits while getting on base three times.
He also scored a run and drove in one.
Triplett doubled home Muniz in the second to give Jacksonville the early, 1-0, cushion. Mason Smith also had a base hit and an RBI.
Bryce Cundieff, a freshman, took the loss on the hill for the Tribe.
He worked four innings, struck out five and walked four, while allowing three runs.
