FORT WORTH — Tanner Schrader of Lubbock Christian Academy, the defending state champions, swished a trey as time ran out in Friday's TAPPS 3A state semi-final, giving the Eagles a stunning 55-52 win over Brook Hill.
The game was played at Hartnett Arena at Fort Worth Nolan Catholic High School.
The Guard and the Eagles were no strangers to one another as it was Lubbock Christian that stopped Brook Hill in the 2013 regional final.
The Guard trailed from the start as the Eagles led 13-10 after one quarter and 25-17 at halftime and were only able to make the lead briefly in the closing seconds of the game.
Brook Hill's Chase McDermott led all players with 19 points.
Alex Hale tossed in 18, followed by Grant Hanks and Clayton Engel, who added six and five points, respectively.
Schrader and Peyton Maddox put in nine apiece to spark Lubbock Christian (30-5).
Brook Hill, who played a grueling non-district schedule against several larger UIL schools, will return the nucleus of this year's team for the 2014-15 campaign, making Brook Hill one of the early favorites to reach next year's TAPPS 3A Final Four.
The Guard (22-15) are coached by Wally Dawkins.
