Jacksonville College linksters finish 6th at Hal Sutton tourney recent outing

FAIRFIELD —  Six was the operative number for both the Jacksonville College men and womens golf units this week.

The Jaguars and the Lady Jaguars each came in sixth place in their respective divisions of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, hosted by Centenary College earlier this week.

Each division featured eight schools, with the bulk being four-year institutions.

The two-day event was played at the The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, La.

Highlighting things for JC was Molly Franks, a Sherman, Texas sophomore, ending up at T6 in the womens standings.

Franks logged rounds of 88 and 80 to total 168.

Paris Junior College (609) finished 33 strokes in front of runner up Tyler Junior College in the team standings.

Next was Millsaps College (635), followed by Centenary (648), Texas A&M-Texarkana (660) and JC (667).

LeTourneau University (680) and Hendrix College (770) completed the order of finish.

Centenary's Zander Winston turned in rounds of 70 and 75 on the par-72 layout to take first place in the individual standings.

JC's M. J. Ghene, a Troup High product, came in T11, which was a team-best for the Jags.

Ghene's scorecard read, 83, 76 — 159.

Matt Hance (84-82 — 166) wound up at T22 for the JC men.

Will Langston, also from Troup, carded rounds of 84 and 86 to tally a 166, which put him T26.

UT-Tyler and Tyler Junior College tied for first on the distaff side, ending with 670 totals, respectively.

Jackson State (682), Centenary (717) and the University of New Orleans (739) were the remaining schools that finished in front of the Lady Jags (797).

Millsaps College (805) and Hendrix College (954) completed the pecking order for the ladies.

Medalist honors went to Lauren Durbin of Millsaps College who shot a 161 (88, 73) and won a playoff victory over Pair Noibanchong of University of New Orleans.

Sydney Cash and Katie Lamond finished inside of the top 30 for the JC women.

Cash shot rounds of 99 and 96 to end the tourney at 195, which put her 26th in the individual standings.

Lamond came in 29th (100-101 — 201).
