In an NJCAA tennis match that pitted Jacksonville College of Region XIV against Region 5's Temple College, the Lady Leopards edged the Lady Jaguars, 5-4, while the Temple men disposed of the Jaguars by an 8-1 margin on Friday.
Highlighting play for the Lady Jags was Maria Coronel's win in No. 1 women's singles.
Coronel downed Temple's D. Bruce (1-6, 6-2, (10-4)).
JC's other wins in women's singles came via default.
Ashley Hermis and Andreia Calllahan teamed up in women's No. 3 doubles to earn a point for JC.
The Lady Jags now stand at 5-5 and will not return to the courts until the regional tournament (April 19-20, at Tyler Junior College).
The JC men put forth a great deal of effort, according to head coach Mark Robbins, with Tyler Smith being the only Jag that was victorious on the day.
Smith polished off Temple's Dalton Woodfin (7-5, 2-6, (10-6).
A couple of the matches were real nail biters that saw the JC men come within a whisker of taking the point each time.
In No. 1 men's doubles, JC's Jonathan Taylor & Gil Lim lost 5-8 to Hochguertiel & Longoria from Temple.
In another men's doubles match that went down to the wire, the Jags' Daniel Apacible & Joey Quandt were stopped (7-9) by the duo of Arriaga & Galvan.
The Jags (3-8) will visit NCAA, Division II Dallas Baptist on Saturday in the club's final test before the regional tournament on April 19 and 20.
