JACKSONVILLE — TAPPS 4-3A Baseball: Brook Hill pulverizes Dallas Lutheran, twice

DALLAS — Brook Hill bats struck for 39 runs in two games as the Guard swept Dallas Lutheran 23-5 and 16-0 in TAPPS 4-3A action that was played in Dallas on Tuesday. In the opener Clayton Engel went 3-for-4 and knocked in five runs while T. J. Dunks had a 3-for-4 game with four RBI. Drew Robertson and Kendall Kerns struck for three hits each as a part of a 16-hit Guard onslaught. Kerns went yard in the second frame with one aboard. Dunks led the Brook Hill charge in the second contest by going 2-for-3. He also drove in four runs. Engel chalked up three RBI in also. Daniel Priddy earned the win on the mound in game 1, while Michael Greening was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. Brook Hill will continue district play by entertaining Dallas First Baptist at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

District 18-2A Softball: Mason collects 3 hits; Lady Tigers stop Arp, 8-1

TROUP — Bethany Mason went 3-for-4 and scored a run to help send Troup's Lady Tigers to an 8-1 victory over District 18-2A rival Arp on Tuesday evening. Ronnie Boyer went 2-for-4 and had an RBI. Josee Ross picked up the complete-game pitching win by allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking one. Troup (24-5-2, 10-1 18-2A) led 3-1 after one inning and then added a run in the third and fifth innings while plating a trio of young ladies in the fourth stanza. The Lady Tigers, who are ranked No. 9 in this week's Class 2-A poll, will travel to Hawkins for a 5:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Rusk Tennis: Dyess takes third in district tourney

RUSK — Rusk's Jaclyn Dyess finished third in girl's singles at the recent District 19-3A tennis tournament. Kerry Day took fourth for the Rusk girls, giving Rusk two medals for the tourney.

    One would probably be hard pressed to find any summer youth sports camp with a more streamlined approach than was found at the Jacksonville Fightin' Maiden Basketball camp, which took place this week at the Jacksonville High School Gymnasium.

    “We just asked the young ladies for two things,” Tony Harris, Jacksonville High School head girl's basketball coach, stated on Wednesday. “First, we wanted them to have fun and secondly we wanted them to learn control — to be able to control their eyes, their body and the (opposing) defender.”
