Palestine quarter- back, Gee Clark ran up a combined 237- yards in carries and had two scoring completions in the first half alone, lead- ing his Wildcats to a dominating 56-35, win over the visiting Jacksonville Indians, on Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium.
The game was moved up a day in order for a live broadcast by KTXA Channel 21, of Dallas to air the game, which was a first in the 100-year history of Indian football.
Palestine took a 34-7 advantage into the intermission after Clark ran for two scores, and threw for a couple more, accounting for the big cushion at the intermission with 58-yards rushing and two scores, and 6 of 13 for 179 in the air in the opening half..
Two plays into the game. Clark found Jarrell Owens for a 66-yard scor- ing connection, and the Jose Rosales staked an early lead.
Jacksonville appeared to be ready to make it a game, as running back, answering the score 57-seconds later as Indian signal-caller, Carter McCown found Tony Lane for a six-yard TD strike. The Ryan Travis PAT tied the game 7-7.
Clark tacked on a 12-yard TD jaunt, and threw a 58-yard scoring toss to Sheldon Watson on the first play of the second quarter for a 19-7, Palestine lead. After a Indian's interception, Clark bulled over as the tie in the first half ran out. A two-point pass was completed for the 24-7, Palestine lead.
The Wildcats held a 355-64 advan- tage in total yards at halftime.
McCown was a solid 18 of 37 for 268 yards. Stacy Cummings had 39 yards in five carries, and Parish, 35-yards in five tries.
For Palestine, Ben Luckett ran for 245-yards on 26 carries to accompany 179-yards via the air from Clark. Trent Sansom had five catches for 53-yards to lead the Indians receivers.
The Indians got an interception from Lakendrick Anderson to set up the first Jacksonville tally.
The Wildcats got a first half pickoff from Brian Gumlett.
Jacksonville’s young defenders con- tinued to str uggle in the game.
After giving up just over 500 total yards to No. 1-ranked Car thage last week, the Tribe surrendered 618 yards to the unranked Wildcats.
The Indians (0-2) will next play host to Gilmer. Palestine (2-0), will travel to Mansfield-Summit.
Both of those contests will be played next Friday night, which will also be homecoming in Jacksonville.
