Collegiate Soccer: JC drop a pair to ETBU

Jacksonville College lost a pair of matches to East Texas Baptist University (NCAA, Division III) on Friday afternoon at Bill McRae Field in Jacksonville. The Lady Tigers stopped the Lady Jaguars 2-1, with the ETBU men downing JC by a 3-1 score. The Jaguars (0-3-1, 0-1 Region XIV) will return to conference play Friday by traveling to Coastal Bend. The JC women, who also fell (4-1) to Cisco College on Saturday, are off until Sep. 20 when they travel to Mount Pleasant to face Northeast Texas Community College in Region XIV action. The Lady Jags are 1-4, 0-1.

 

JMS Volleyball: 7th Gold stops Grace Community in 3

Jacksonville Middle School's 7th grade Gold team defeated Grace Community School 2-1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-13 late last week. The 7th grade Blue team lost 2-0 (18-25, 22-25) to the Lady Cougars. Grace swept both of the 8th grade matches in straight sets.

 

JMS Volleyball: 7th Blue gets a win over Nacogdoches

In the latest volleyball action involving teams from Jacksonville Middle School, the 7th grade Blue unit dealt Nacogdoches a 2-0 (27-25, 25-18) loss, with the 8th grade Blue team losing a nail biter, 2-1 (25-27, 25-23, 18-25). The JMS 7th grade Gold and 8th grade Gold squads both lost 2-0 to opponents for Nacogdoches.

 

Hamilton wins Birmingham Forest Club Championship

RUSK — Mike Hamilton shot rounds of 69 and 73 and finished at 142 to claim the Club Championship at Birmingham Forest Golf Club in Rusk. Steve Pate (73-77 —150) and Mark Raiborn (77-77— 154) finished second and third, respectively, in the Championship Flight. Eric Henslee shot a 36-hole total 156 to win the First Flight, with Bryan Howell (159) and Zosimo Elevera (160) completing the flight. RD Redden (161) finished in front of Jan Pate (167) and Jack Woody (170) to win bragging rights in the Second Flight. In the Third Flight Rob Carter (181) topped Ricky Murphy (190) and Don Goff (191). Hamilton (Saturday) and Henslee (Sunday) won Closet to the Pin honors.

 

BF Golf Club to host “Over the Hill” senior scramble

RUSK — An “Over the Hill” senior scramble will take place at the Birmingham Golf Club in Rusk on Sep. 23. The two-person scramble is for golfers age 50 and over. Entry fee is $50.00 per team. Cash prizes ranging from $200.00 to $50.00 will be awarded in each flight. Team handicaps must be 24 or higher. Teams will be pre-flighted according to handicaps.
