JACKSONVILLE — Sparked by personal bests from three of its squad members, the Jacksonville High School golf team was able to earn a runner-up finish in the Indian Classic Tour, which took place at The Challenge at the Woods Country Club on Thursday.

All Saints of Tyler finished at 320 to win first place on the boy's side, with the Indians coming in at 328, which was a 42-stroke improvement over their previous low of the season.

Lufkin Hudson captured top honors for the girls, finishing well ahead of runner-up Fairfield.

The Lady Hornets came in at 408, or 30 strokes better than Fairfield.

Brook Hill's Hunter Shattuck, who recently signed a scholarship with McLennan Community College in Waco, carded a 75 to win medalist for the boys.

Shattuck beat Luke Haberle of All Saints by one stroke to pick up bragging rights for the boys.

Madison Harris' 84 was the low score for the girls. Harris is from Nacogdoches High.

Harris surpassed Hudson's Lauren Johnson by two strokes in the battle for first for the females.

Cameron Brown fired a sizzling 79 to lead Jacksonville while Trent Sansom recorded a round of 79.

Robert Moberly and Cash Cleaver scored 85's, respectively.

Ending up at 101 was Cade Cessna and Josh Ambroson tallied a 104.

The scores for Brown, Moberly and Cleaver were all personal bests.

“This was, by far, our best outing of the year,” Jacksonville head coach Cecil Newton said. “Our previous best was 370, so we were able to show a great deal of improvement (Thursday) as a team.

“These young men put in many hours of practice and several of them are very active in other sports and school organizations. I really appreciate each of them.”

Jacksonville will be back in action on Tuesday, participating in a tournament at Garden Valley Country Club near Lindale.
