Prep Hoops Roundup: Maidens, Lady Eagles and Lady Guard garner wins

Girls

Jacksonville 47, Palestine 41: PALESTINE — Longtime rivals Jacksonville and Palestine collided on the Ladycats' home boards Tuesday night, with the Fight'n Maidens improving to 2-1 on the year after coming away with a 47-41 victory. Jacksonville led 25-23 at the half and used a big finish where the Maidens outscored Palestine, 13-9, in the final segment to secure the win. Jasmine Parson scored 17 points and Monica Franklin finished with 16 to pace Jacksonville offensively. Inchantra Kendrick collected 11 points while TaSheena Canady fired in three. Jacksonville will host Athens at 5:30 p.m. (varsity tip-off time) on Friday. Jacksonville's boys will open tier season by taking on Brownsboro in the second half of the doubleheader, which should tip-off around 7:15 p.m.

 

Rusk 36, Brownsboro 32: RUSK — The Lady Eagles of Rusk celebrated a third-place finish in the Crockett Tournament this past weekend by upending Brownsboro, 36-32, at Eagle Coliseum on Tuesday. Kristen Fuller popped in a game-high 22 points for Rusk while Destiny Morris ended the night with seven. Rusk trailed 17-2 after one quarter of play, but outscored the Bearettes 34-15 the rest of the way.

 

Brook Hill 45, Longview Christian Academy 27: BULLARD — Brook Hill ran its record to 2-0 Tuesday by crushing Longview Christian Academy, 45-27. Charlie Niles' 12 points led the Lady Guard while Morgan Fore swished in nine points. The Lady Guard turned in a sparking defensive effort in which Longview Christian was held to single digits in every quarter.

 

 

Boys

Martin's Mill 55, New Summerfield 46: BEN WHEELER — No. 11-ranked Martin's Mills got past New Summerfield 55-46 onTuesday. The Mustangs are now 4-1 on the year while the Hornets tumbled to 2-3 with the defeat. New Summerfield visits Elkhart at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26.

    In filling its opening for a head girl's basketball coach, The Brook Hill School turned to Ivan Johnson, a coach that has been has achieved playoff success in TAPPS circles.

    Johnson was introduced as Brook Hill's man to lead the Lady Guard hoop charges Tuesday afternoon in a press conference that was held on campus at the Kyle Lake Athletic Center.
