Carter McCown, a junior at Jacksonville High School, has been named as the Daily Progress Player of the Week for Week 1.
McCown, the Tribe's quarterback, passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns in his team's loss to Palestine on Thursday night.
He went 18-37 via the airways while also adding 59 rushing yards.
All total, McCown figured into 327 of the Indians' total yards.
Honorable Mention Performances
Jacolby Whitaker, Alto — Whitaker carried 17 times for 179 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Yellowjackets' 47-27 pasting of Groveton on Friday.
Zac Sturns, Alto — The Mean Sting quarterback plowed into the end zone three times and ran for 143 yards on 20 totes.
Blake Lynch, Troup — Lynch ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for two more, including a 38-yard scoring toss to Hitachi Lydia, in Troup's 48-16 romp over West Rusk.
Connor Mebane, Bullard — Mebane led the Panthers in rushing (33-132, 1 TD) and went 9-17-0 (96 yards) passing in Bullard's defeat suffered at the hands of White Oak.
