Rusk Eagles: Eagles to play only 4 home games this season

RUSK — For every advantage there is a disadvantage, usually.

The Rusk football Eagles enjoyed six home games last season. This year the Red and Black will pay the piper, as Rusk will be on the road for six of its 10 regular season tilts.

If the Eagles can adjust and adapt to life away from Eagle Stadium things could go well for head coach Ted Patton's bunch; if not, then it could be an unpleasant year.

After opening the season with a long trip to Terrell on August 30, the Eagles will visit Crockett the following week.

After those games, the Red and Black should find more pleasure in hosting Eustace, Athens and Brownsboro in back-to-back-to-back weeks.

From that point Rusk's schedule becomes insanely challenging, to put it mildly.

Rusk is slated to complete the non-district portion of its schedule by visiting Carthage (Class 3-A No. 1) on Oct 4 and then then opening District 19-3A play the following week at Fairfield, who is projected to finish second in the district standings (according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football) behind Palestine.

And while on the subject of the maroon-clad Wildcats, Oct. 18 will find Palestine visiting Eagle Stadium.

If the Eagles can survive that stretch, ending the year at Groesbeck (Nov. 1) and at home versus Mexia (Nov. 8) should be more to their liking.

With four teams slated to qualify for playoff spots in Class 3A this year the numbers are favorable for the Eagles to be playing football after Nov. 8 – Mexia is the team that has been tabbed as the one that will most probably miss out on post season play this year.

So it is possible that the Eagles' fate could come down to the wire when the Eagles host the Black Cats on the final night of the regular season.
