Jacksonville JAXX open TTA 12U state tourney with win over Iola

Frankston girls a winner too; steam Rice

MABANK — Head coach Roel Ramirez' Jacksonville JAXX got things started off on the right track Tuesday night by beating the Iola Bulldogs in the opening round of the Texas Teenage Baseball/Softball Association Girl's 12U Softball Tournament, which runs through Saturday in Mabank.

The JAXX were scheduled to take on the Athens Lady Cats late Wednesday afternoon in a winner's bracket contest. Athens will be playing its first game in the tourney, after receiving a first-round bye.

The winner between Jacksonville and Athens will play either a team from Belton or Canton at 5 p.m. Friday, while the loser will fall into loser's bracket play of the double-elimination tourney.

JAXX squad members include, Raven Ramirez, Raylee Ramirez, Jacey Hicks, Madison Crowe, Winter Hammons, Emily Moreira, DeSheera Whitaker, Sierra Mosley, Yanelly Barrera, Ashley Murray Lauryn Johnson, Matalyn Swinford and Ashlynn Pierce.

Frankston Heat first-day winners as well

Frankston's Heat also opened tournament play with a win in Mabank on Tuesday evening. The Heat leveled the Rice Rampage. Frankston had a Wednesday afternoon date with Mildred, who received a first-round free pass.

NOTE: The Troup Coldplay are also one of the 21 teams in the tourney field...Troup's first game is slated for 3:30 p.m. Friday when the Heat are scheduled the Whitney Lady Cats...Whitney stunned Stephenville's Aces on Tuesday.
