TAPPS 3A Boys Golf: Brook Hill wins state championship; Shattuck secures medalist honors

FORT HOOD —  In an extremely competitive competition Brook Hill's boys golf squad eclipsed Midland Trinity Christian by just five strokes to earn the TAPPS Class 3A state championship Tuesday at Courses at Clear Creek.

The Guard linksters checked in at 646 (318-328), while Trinity Christian carded a team total of 651 (321-330).  

Baytown Christian Academy ended up third at 714.

Hunter Shattuck, who signed with McLennan Community College in Waco earlier this year, led the Guard by earning tournament medalist lauds.

Shattuck, who is from Jacksonville, turned in back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish with a two-day total of 142.

He was nine strokes in front of the tournament's second-place finisher, Curtis Morrow of Trinity Christian, who checked in at 153 (75-78).

The Guard's Matthew Webb wound up eighth in the individual standings, following rounds of 80 and 86.

Both Shattuck and Webb were named to the all-state team.

Other representatives from Brook Hill were, Jeffrey Yeager (83-84 — 167), Travis King (84-87 — 171) and Austin Savage (93-104 — 197).
