Brook Hill used a three run sixth inning to get past Bryan Brazos Christian, 7-5, in the TAPPS 3A State Championship baseball game that took place in Waco Wednesday afternoon.

The win was Brook Hill's third-straight TAPPS baseball championship.

Brook Hill led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth frame.

That's when the Guard erupted for three runs that turned out to be the difference make in the end.

In the sixth, Kendall Kerns led off with a walk and was moved up to second base on a bunt single off of the bat of Collin Mondrick.

The Eagles then went to thier bullpen and brought in Justin Baldwin to pitch.

Baldwin immediately surrendered an opposite-field triple to Drew Robertson that plated Kerns and Mondrick and extended the Brook Hill edge to 6-2.

Robertson scored later in the segment on a ground out which gave the Guard what seemed like a comfortable, 7-2, advantage at the time.

After Brook Hill starter Quinton Pile had tossed six solid innings and had struck out 14 Eagles while walking only one, Brook Hill skipper Terry Pirtle summoned Mondrick in to work the seventh inning.

Brazos Christian continued to fight and managed to load the bases with just one out.

The Eagles closed the gap to 7-4 following a Brook Hill error that allowed two runs to come home.

Brazos Christian's final run came on a fielder's choice that took place with two outs.

Pile, a Wofford University signee, picked up the pitching win for the Guard while Eagle starter John Gillett was charged with the loss.

The game was Pirtle's final one as Guard field general. Pirtle accepted a job as head football coach at Houston Second Baptist earlier this spring.

Brook Hill ends up with a 23-5 record.

NOTE: The game was originally scheduled to be played at Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton, but was shifted to Waco due to inclement weather in the Belton area.
