Chick-fil-A Heart of Champion Bowl to take place Saturday

TYLER — The 2013 Chick-fil-A Heart of a Champion Bowl All Star (football) Game is scheduled to return to Tyler Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium and be played at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Last year's installment took place in Longview due to renovations that were being done at TMF Rose Stadium.

Players, coaches and even cheerleaders from most of the area high schools will be participating in this year's game which will match the Red team against the Blue squad.

The Blue team,  coached by Tim Russell of Harmony High School, features the majority of the area talent.

For starters, Bullard head coach Shannon Wilson is one of the team's eight assistant coaches.

Three of Wilson's Panther standouts have been tabbed for duty including quarterback Colton Mebane, linebacker Zack Holladay and wide receiver, Haden Bryant.

Bullard's Carly Sigler will serve as one of the team's cheerleaders — as well Savana Dover of Alto.

The squad's cheer sponsor is Kelly Nichols of Bullard.

Also playing on the Blue unit is Troup linebacker Shaquille Rollins.

Scheduled to suit up for the opposing Red team will be former Jacksonville High standout, Dadrian “DD” Franklin, a wide receiver, and Rusk's Chaston Bennett (RB), a speed burner.

Alto will be sending two players to the team. Linebacker Michael Taylor and Tanner Jones, an offensive lineman, will represent the Mean Sting.

Troup cheerleader Kourtney Williams will be helping to root the Red team on to victory.

Van High's Jared Moffatt is the team's head coach.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Plenty of good seats remain and may be purchased at the gate.
