JACKSONVILLE — Fight'n Maiden Basketball Camp quickly approaching

Jacksonville Fight'n Maiden Basketball Camp will take place on July 8-11 (Monday-Thursday) at the JHS Gymnasium. The camp will be led by Tony Harris, Fight'n Maiden head basketball coach, plus various guest instructors. Camp, which is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon each day, is aimed at incoming 5th-9th graders. Pre-registration is $30 per person, or $35 if signing up on the first day. Campers can expect to learn the fundamentals of basketball, general knowledge of the game and team play, all taught in a fun and competitive environment, according to Harris, who also indicated that his camps focus on raising confidence levels and self esteem of its participants. Troup linkster signs with Jacksonville College

TROUP — With the recent signing of Travis Young, Jacksonville College now has four members of its men's golf team that are Troup High School products. Young will join M. J. Ghene, Will Langston and John Dobbs. JC golf is coached by Lynn Nabi.







Brook Hill catcher Kerns named as district MVP

BULLARD — Brook Hill catcher Kendall Kerns has been named as TAPPS District 3-3A Most Valuable Player. Kerns, who has signed with Abilene Christian University, hit five home runs and drove in 38 for the state champion Guardsmen. He also added 11 doubles and three triples. Outfielder/pitcher Collin Mondrick was presented with the Offensive MVP honor. He picked up 35 hits on the year and scored 37 runs while driving in 28. Also receiving superlative mention was Clayton Engel. The Brook Hill shortstop was selected as the loop's Newcomer of the Year. Head coach Terry Pirtle, who has now taken over as head football coach at Houston Second Baptist, was voted as the district's Coach of the Year. Making All-District (First Team) were, Kerns, Mondrick, Engel, Michael Greening, Quintin Pile, a Wofford University signee, Daniel Priddy, Johan Gonzalez, Blake Maddox and Drew Robertson. Ryan Young picked up Second Team mention while Ryan Cox earned Honorable mention plaudits.







Moss scores twice in Victoria's win over Pump Jacks

VICTORIA — The Victoria Generals used a three run opening inning and a five run sixth to put away the East Texas Pump Jacks, 9-5, in a Texas Collegiate League game that took place on Wednesday night. Former Brook Hill standout, J. B. Moss, who is a member of the Texas A&M baseball team, scored two of the Generals' runs batting out of the two hole. He also stole a base. Moss leads Victoria with a .350 batting average through seven games. He also has collected seven RBI.
