The weather was cold outside and so was the Whitehouse shooting inside The Arena on Tuesday night in a non-district matchup between the Lady ‘Cats and the fourth-ranked Bullard Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 10-3 lead after one quarter and held the Lady ‘Cats to single digits in the first three quarters on the way to a 47-31, win for Bullard.
Bullard junior, Lexi Abercrombie scored 16 of her game-high, 22 points in the opening half for a 25-12 advantage at halftime. Abercrombie added eight rebounds, and two assists.
Abercrombie knocked down her second of four 3-pointers in the game for the 13-point halftime cushion.
Bullard tenacious defense did not help the Whitehouse (2-2) cause, forcing 22 turnovers in the game, while holding the Ladycats' to single digit scoring in the first three quarters, trailing 39-16.
The Lady Panthers inside threat, Lexi Kirgan scored two of her six-points to start off the final quarter before Whitehouse put together a 9-2 run to shorten the lead to a Bullard 43-25, advantage.
Bullard won the 3-point race knocking down seven to only two for the Lady ‘Cats.
“Whitehouse is a very physical team and they did a great job of keeping us out of our game early on,” said Bullard hard-working assistant coach, Chris Hightower. “But our girl’s did a great job of picking up what they were doing, and we really had some success with our inside-out game, to free up our outside shooters, and that was the big difference I think.”
Lady Panther point guard, Taylor Frederick nailed three, 3-pointers and finished with nine-points, five assists and four steals. Bridgette Taylor was also key for Bullard with seven-points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Ladycat, Ashton Ates (seven rebounds, three steals), came on to score all six of her points in the final period for Whitehouse, while teammate Brook Stewart led the home team in scoring with eight-points in the setback.
Bullard (10-1), will open district play, Tuesday, Dec. 3 as the Lady Buckeyes from Gilmer visit Panther Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
