TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
Former Rusk High School fire baller, Sydney Littlejohn, now a true freshman on the No. 5-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide softball team, has racked up Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week accolades.
Making her first-ever SEC start against Missouri, ranked No. 13 in the country, on Friday night in Columbia, Mo., Littlejohn stayed calm, cool and collected her 10th win of the year as Alabama clinched the SEC Championship by taking a 3-1 win over the home team.
Littlejohn went the distance in the circle and gave up just one earned run on four hits while striking out six.
As if that were not enough for the young upstart, the following day Littlejohn was brought in for a relief appearance in the sixth inning.
Alabama led 2-0 at the time with the potential go-ahead run at the dish.
Littlejohn surrendered one hit to the Tigers in 1.2 frames of work to earn her third save of the season.
Littlejohn will now take her sparkling 10-1 record (1.42 earned run average) to Columbia, SC this weekend for the SEC Championship Tournament.
Alabama, the top seed in the tourney, received a first round bye and will play the winner of the Auburn-South Carolina game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
That game will be broadcast of ESPNU.
