BULLARD — Jacksonville softball goes 3-1 in weekend tourney

NACOGDOCHES — Jacksonville earned wins over Center (7-4), Pineland West Sabine (11-3) and Timpson (7-6) during play in the Nacogdoches Tournament. The Maidens' (4-6) only loss came to Colmesneil, 13-8. The Maidens used the long ball to their advantage as freshman Taylor Whitaker blasted two over-the-fence home runs while Jordane Mallard, a sophomore, ripped one ball over the wall for her first varsity homer. In the JV division, Jacksonville went 2-2, with the wins coming over Diboll (8-0) and Lufkin Hudson (6-0).



Lady Jaguars win a nail biter over Lady Rangers

Susan Agesen and Deva'Nyar Workman paired up to toss in 31 points to send Jacksonville College to a 59-57 win over Kilgore College Saturday afternoon at Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse. Agesen, a freshman post from Edgewood, led the way with 16 points. Head coach Lynn Nabi said that he was pleased with the defensive effort that his team gave. The JC women are 16-12 overall, 8-6 Region XIV, and remain a half-game behind third-place Angelina, who also won on Saturday.

Kilgore fell to 10-10, 5-10 with the loss. The Lady Jaguars travel to Blinn on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).



JC men manhandle Angelina, 78-60

LUFKIN — The Jacksonville College men's basketball team won its fifth game in-a-row Saturday night when they slugged Angelina College, 78-60, on the 'Runners' home floor. JC (21-7, 12-5 Region XIV) remains tied with San Jacinto for third place in the standings, with two regular season games left on the schedule. The Jags host Lamar State-Port Arthur (20-9, 9-8) at 7 p.m. this evening before closing out the regular season at San Jacinto Saturday.



New Summerfield to face San Augustine in regionals tonight

CENTRAL HEIGHTS — The New Summerfield Hornets logged a 63-56 win over Broaddus in a Class A-I, Region III, Area game that took place at the Tenaha Events Center Friday night. The Hornets will now face San Augustine in a regional quarterfinal game that will begin at 7 p.m. this evening at Central Heights High School. The Wolves (20-7) are ranked No. 8 in the state in the latest Class A-I poll.



H S Baseball: Rusk wins first place in Palestine Tournament

PALESTINE — Rusk defeated Elkhart, 10-6, to win the championship of the Palestine Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles outscored Brownsboro, 6-4, in the semi-finals.  Rusk will play in the Lindale Tournament (Thursday through Saturday).



Lady Panther softball improves to 8-2 on year

NACOGDOCHES — Bullard went 3-1 in the Nacogdoches Tournament over the weekend to improve to 8-2 on the year. The Lady Panthers chalked up wins over Shelbyville, Hemphill and Diboll and lost to district-rival and state-ranked Henderson.

The Lady Panthers travel to Grand Saline tonight.
