Case Wilkerson, a 6-foot-5 sophomore post, poured in 25 points on 11-21 (52.4%) shooting from the field to propel the Hornets of New Summerfield to a 109-37 blowout victory over East Texas Christian Academy of Tyler Tuesday night at Hornet Gymnasium.

The Hornets improved to 5-3 with the win, while ETCA fell to 0-8.

New Summerfield built an 18-2 lead after four minutes of play and led by 21 points, 59-27, at intermission.

We had to make some changes with (starter) Angel Marroquin being out (leg injury),” New Summerfield head coach, Sunny Hardy, said. “So, yes, I was pleased at what we able to do with some of kids playing out of position, but overall we still are not where we need to be.”

New Summerfield expanded its margin to 50 points with 3:07 to go in the third quarter when Fernando Torres canned a bucket that came in the middle of a 17-0 Hornet run.

Torres also scored New Summerfield's 100th point when he drained a deep deuce off of the right side with 3:12 to play in the contest.

Other double-digit point makers for New Summerfield were, William Ramsey with 13, Devin Abercrombie and Francisco Parra, with 12 apiece.

Wendl Thomas and Julio Rubio added 10 each.

Torres and Justin Hayes scored eight points apiece in the winning cause.

The Panthers received 16 points from G. Morgan, who put in four shots from beyond the arc.

New Summerfield will open its run in the Central Heights Tournament by taking on Laneville at 9:50 a.m. (Practice Gym) on Thursday. The tourney concludes on Saturday.
