JHS tennis: Tribe girls perform well in squad’s loss to Whitehouse

JACKSONVILLE —

WHITEHOUSE — Despite a strong performance by the Jacksonville girls, Tribe tennis fell, 13-6, in a District 16-4A match that was played in Whitehouse on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jacksonville girls went 4-2 in singles play and won two of the three doubles matches to account for all of Tribe tennis' points on the day.

The closest match of the day on the boys side came in No. 5 singles.

That's where Israel Garcia of Jacksonville took Nathan Baum to three sets before going down (3-6, 6-4, 5-7).

Ellie Day, Kristie Savage, Carolina Hernandez and Maria Landin were all winners for Jacksonville in girls singles.

Landin &  Carolina Hernandez and the tandem of Suzi McCuistion & Cesia Hernandez posted two-set wins in girls doubles for Tribe tennis.

McCuistion & Cesia Hernandez battled back after losing the opening set 6-4 to win 7-6, 7-6 over Whitehouse's duo of Jones & Martinez.

Jacksonville is back in action Tuesday when Lindale comes in for a 4 p.m. match, which will also serve as a league affair.

NOTES: Corsicana (2-0) currently leads the 16-4A standings...Jacksonville, Whitehouse, Lindale and Nacogdoches are in a log jam for second place at 1-1...With an 0-2 record, John Tyler is occupying the basement in the league rankings...Corsicana's wins have been over Lindale and Whitehouse.
