Junior Tennis: East Texas Circuit tourney coming to town Saturday
The Jacksonville High School Tennis Complex will be the venue for the East Texas Circuit Tournament on Saturday. There will a division for 7-9 graders and another grouping for 10-12th grade participants. Singles, doubles and mixed doubles divisions will be played. Former Guard diamond star has 3 hits in Victoria loss
VICTORIA, Texas — J.B. Moss, a former Brook Hill baseball standout who now plays collegiatly at Texas A&M went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI in Victoria's 13-8 loss to Brazos Valley Bombers on Sunday. Moss, who is batting .302 for the season, chalked up three singles in the game. The Generals are now 0-4 in Second Half standings of the Texas Collegiate League. The Bombers, meanwhile, improved to 3-1 with the victory.
PRCA Rodeo: McKnight ends up 4th in St. Paul, Ore.
Saint Paul, Ore. — Wells' Tyler McKnight and team roping partner Tyler Wade of Terrell, ended up tied for fourth place in average (11.1 seconds) at the St. Paul (Ore.) July 4th Rodeo. McKnight and Wade each earned a paycheck in the amount of $2,627 dollars. Winning average with a time of 10.1 were Tate Kirchenschlanger and Will Woodfin. McKnight, 24, is expected to remain out west to participate in other high payout rodeos.
JUCO Womens Basketball: Lon Morris ex transfers to LSU-Shreveport
SHREVEPORT — Former Lon Morris College women's basketball standout Byroneisha Santiago, has transferred from Louisiana-Lafayette (NCAA Division I) to LSU-Shreveport (NAIA). Santiago averaged 20 minutes a game last year at UL-Lafayette where she pumped in an average of 9.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a night. Santiago will have two years of eligibility remaining. LSU-Shreveport went 25-6 overall last year and finished third in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Ramirez collects a hit in first game with Rangers' Triple A farm club
ROUND ROCK, Texas — Recently signed Manny Ramirez went 1-for-3 Sunday in his first game as a member of the Round Rock Express, Triple A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are considering Ramirez, a 12-time all-star and a career .312 hitter at the major-league level, for a potential spot on the roster, provided he performs well at Round Rock.
Dallas Cowboys’ Brent gains freedom
DALLAS (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys lineman Josh Brent is out of jail again, but under new conditions that include wearing a drug-detection patch at all times and not driving at all.
Brent was freed Sunday morning on bond. He's charged with intoxication manslaughter in a December car crash that killed Cowboys practice squad player and close friend Jerry Brown.
Brent was jailed June 27 after testing positive for marijuana a second time.
Prosecutors have filed a motion to have Brent's $100,000 bond revoked after the two drug tests.
The bond conditions approved by a judge Sunday include wearing a drug patch and not driving under any circumstances, in addition to previous alcohol monitoring.
