The Jacksonville High School girls basketball team put a bow on a post-season spot by upsetting the Lady Tigers of Corsicana on the Lady Tigers' own court Friday night.
The final score was 39-37, with the Fightin' Maidens winning in electrifying fashion as DaMonica Franklin sank a mid-range shot at the buzzer that gave Jacksonville (15-13, 4-5 16-4A) the triumph in hostile territory.
Jacksonville sits a game behind third-place Lindale in the 16-4A standings, with the regular season slated to draw to a close Tuesday with Jacksonville scheduled to visit Nacogdoches and Lindale playing at Whitehouse.
The Fightin' Maidens found themselves down 30-19 in the third frame against the Lady Tigers before peeling off a 10-0 run to pull to within a single point.
Eight of the points in the runs were second-chance points made possible by the Maidens aggressiveness on the offensive glass.
Defensively, Jacksonville held the Lady Tigers scoreless over the fianl 5:03 of the game to cap the evening off on a high note after a shaky early start.
Jasmine Parson, the Maidens' lone senior, finished with a game-best 15 points, with Franklin tossing in eight.
Destini Lunsford wound up with 11 for Corsicana, all of which came in the opening16 minutes of play.
