Rusk's Trotter gets the start in Sam Houston FCS playoff win

HUNTSVILLE —

Former Rusk Eagle standout John Trotter got the start at left guard on the Sam Houston offensive line during the Bearkats' 51-20 triumph over Southern Utah in a NCAA Football Championship Series Playoff tilt that took place at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville on Saturday.

Trotter is a 6-foot-3, 276-pound junior, who was coached by Ted Patton at Rusk.

Brian Bell threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to engineered a 30-consecutive point Sam Houston (9-4) run after the Thunderbirds (8-5) hopped out to anearly 10-0 lead.

The Bearcats will move on to face Southland Conference rival and league champion Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. Saturday in Hammond, La.

Sam Houston lost the regular-season meeting with the Lions by a 34-21 score on Nov. 16.
