Boys basketball teams from nearby Bullard, Troup and Grace Community School will join the Guard of Brook Hill for the Tommy Young Boys Varsity Basketball Classic, which is slated to run Thursday through Saturday at Brook Hill's Herrington Gymnasium.
There will two games each evening, with the schools competing in round robin fashion.
Action gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when Grace takes on Bullard's Panthers at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. Troup and Brook Hill are scheduled to tangle.
Bullard plays Troup at 6:30 p.m. Friday, with the closing game of the evening pitting Grace against Brook Hill at 8 p.m.
At 4:30 p.m. Saturday the Tigers of Troup will face Grace.
The event will close with a marquee matchup featuring both of Bullard's teams, as Bullard High will meet Brook Hill for local bragging rights at 6 p.m.
The Guard (3-0) are coached by Wally Dawkins, who is in his 33rd season as a head coach. Dawkins recently won his 670th-career victory when his Guardsmen won the New Diana Tournament.
Bullard is coached by Shane Chambless, who played for Dawkins at Whitehouse.
Longtime-East Texas coach Jody Sory is the bench boss in Troup.
“We think these games will be very competitive between four-local schools, which should make for some good basketball,” Dawkins said.
