HALLSVILLE —

On Friday night, at Bobcat Sports Complex in Hallsville Pleasant Grove made up for its lack of size with speed, and a tenacious defense and, more importantly eight 3-pointers.

That combination was enough to give the Lady Hawks from Texarkana a 62-45 victory over Bullard's Lady Panthers in a Class 3A,Region II, Area fray.

The Lady Hawks never shied away from the long ball and came out bombing away from the 3-point arch.

Rene Walker rung up 13-points, in the opening quarter to lead to a 21-7, first quarter advantage for Pleasant Grove. Walker nailed three of her five 3-pointers in the game in the opening stanza.

Bullard finally broke through in the second quarter after a drought beginning in the first stanza of five minutes when Lexi Kirgan scored off a Bridgette Taylor assist but a 23-9, Lady Hawk cushion.

Pleasant Grove answered back with two treys from Faith Lipham, before Kirgan made one of 11 rebounds and made the put back at the halftime buzzer and a 36-21, Lady Hawk cruise.

The Lady Panthers finally hit stride from the three-point circle as Lexi Abercrombie opened up the half with the second of her three treys in the game, to clip the PG lead to eight-points, 42-34.

After battling back into the game, Bullard could not convert from the free throw line going 1-of-10, while the Lady Hawks were 14-of-19 at the charity stripe to stretch the lead to the 62-45, final.

Walker finished up with 28-points to lead all scorers, while teammate Bretta Wacha netted 13-points and six assists to pace the Lady Hawks win.

Lady Panther, Abercrombie and her three treys totaled up for 11-points to lead the Bullard scoring in her final basketball game for Bullard.

Kirgan, a sophomore for Bullard almost totaled out a double-double with nine-points to go with her 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Senior, Bridgette Taylor was held in check with seven-points, but added six rebounds, five steals, and four assists in her final Bullard hoops outing.

Bullard ends their season with a 25-5 record. Bullard graduates five seniors, Taylor Frederick, Brittany Hinton, Bridgette Taylor, Nikki Johnson and Lexi Abercrombie.
