Class 3A, Reg. III bi-district softball: Rusk rips apart Central, 16-1, to advance

CUSHING —

Rachel Miller, Cheyanne Phillips and Kara Hugghins each punched out three hits as Rusk coasted past Pollok Central's Lady Bulldogs, 16-1, Thursday night at Cushing High School.

The single-game bi-district win vaults the Lady Eagles (19-7) into a Class 3A, Region III area round match-up against either West or Rockdale next week.

Rusk batters feasted on Lady Bulldog pitching as Rusk rolled up 12 hits in the 5-inning (Mercy Rule) affair.

Miller, a sophomore went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a triple and five RBI, battling out of the lead-off spot.

She also scored three times.

Phillips, a senior, went 3 for 3 with a homer and four RBI.

Senior Kara Hugghins picked up three hits in four official trips. She doubled, plated a trio of runs and knocked in three.

Chelsea Daniels had a pair of hits, including a double while driving in one for the Ashley Renner-coached Lady Eagles.

Madi Turner picked up the remaining Rusk hit.

Phillips worked five innings and allowed one run (earned) on five hits. She whiffed two and walked three
