Lady Panthers down CHill; Bullard boys fall to 'Dogs

BULLARD — The Chapel Hill Bulldogs boys remain undefeated in District 16-3A basketball after outlasting Bullard 57-38 win over the Panthers.

The Lady Panthers made it a split earlier in the night with a surprising Chapel Hill rally to come within two-points with one-minute left. Bullard regrouped to pull out the win, 58-53 on Tuesday night at Panther gymnasium.

Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs drops to 16-7 on the year, and 3-2 in league play. The Lady Bulldogs next play host to Henderson on Friday night at Bulldog Gymnasium at 6 p.m. in a boys’-girls’ doubleheader. The Lady Panthers remain unbeaten in league play at 5-0 and 17-8 on the season.

The Bulldogs remain undefeated in district play at 4-0 and 14-7 overall.

Bullard  (11-12; 0-2), plays a doubleheader also as they travel to Henderson on Friday with a 6 p.m. tipoff scheduled for the girls’ game. The boy’s contests will follow the conclusion of the girls’ varsity contests.

Bullard 58, Chapel Hill 53

Lexi Kirgan led the Lady Panthers with 12- points and ten rebounds, and scored a basket late to end the Chapel Hill run after pulling within 53-51 with one-minute left.

Lady Panther Brittany Hinton made a steal and a layup made it a 57-51, Bullard lead.

Chapel Hill’s top scorer, D’Errica Campbell came back with her 19th point to close the gap but a Bridgette Taylor free throw was the final icing on the win to remain unscathed in league play.

After leading by as many as 18-points after taking the 15-5 lead to begin the game, Chapel Hill scored 22 points in the final quarter to make it an exciting finish in the game.

The Lady Panthers went cold for 3:35 in the final period while the Lady ‘Dogs scrapped their way back into the game as Campbell and Gabby Brooks went on tears. Brooks scored six of her eight points in the Chapel Hill rally.

Lexi Kirgan scored six of her team-high 12 points in the final quarter to hold off the Chapel Hill 25-15 scoring advantage, and started the nails in the Lady Bulldogs coffin.

Bridgette Taylor and Lexi Abercrombie scored 11 points apiece to add to the Lady Panthers win.
