No. 10 Indians destroy Eagles, 48-21; now 29-0

LINDALE — Jacksonville celebrated breaking into the top 10 (Class 4A) on Monday by hammering Lindale 48-21 on Tuesday night in Lindale.

The Tribe (29-0) improved to 6-0 in conference, while the Eagles fell to 9-16, 0-6.

The win also clinched a playoff spot for the Indians.

After holding Lindale to six points in the opening segment, and just two in the second quarter, the Tribe enjoyed a 20-8 advantage at the break.

The Indians finished with a vengeance as well, outscoring Lindale 16-2 in the final period.

Dadrian Franklin and Raybon Riden had noteworthy efforts in scoring 18 and nine points, respectively.

Kevin Lybrand tossed in six and Daytron Thompson put in five.

Rounding out the scoring for Jacksonville was Kedarrius Buckingham, Ozzian Clayborne, Londedric Taylor, Charles Kendrick and Claude Franklin, who added two points apiece.

The Indians are back at home Friday when Corsicana (21-7, 3-3) comes to town.

The Tigers, who dropped a 79-74 decision to Whitehouse on Tuesday, are in fourth place in the loop standings.

The season's success to date not withstanding, Jacksonville head coach Brent Kelley said that the most important games are yet to be played.

“We have three (district) games left at home, starting with Corsicana on Friday, and if we win those three we are the district champions, regardless of what the other teams do,” Kelley said. “One of our goals coming into this season was to win the district championship and that is something that is important to us.”
