JHS girls win Jacksonville Varsity Invitational

On the strength of first place finishes in girl's “A” and girl's “B” singles, Jacksonville was able to capture the team championship in the Jacksonville Varsity Invitational staged on Friday at the Jacksonville Tennis Complex.

The JHS girls tallied 160 points to finish in front of runner-up Center (140) and Wills Point (70) who came in third.

Ellie Day defeated opponents form Troup, Center and Pine Tree to win her division crown, while Lee spanked foes from Lufkin Hudson, Nacogdoches and Wills Point to win top honors in her grouping.

Jacksonville also nabbed a runner-up finish as Suzi McCuistion & Cesia Hernandez teamed up to finish second in girl's “B” doubles.

A total of eleven schools participated including Troup, who took eighth place and Bullard, who wound up 10th.

Pine Tree and Whitehouse were the top finishers in the boy's division.

The Pirates chalked up 130 points to clip the Wildcats, with finished with 100.

Jacksonville netters earned 10 points and finished in 10th place.

The Bullard boys piled up 50 points to come in sixth, with Troup scoring five points to take 11th place.

NOTE: In boy’s “A” singles, Bryan De La Rosa lost in straight sets to players form Nacogdoches and Wills Point...In boy’s “B” singles, Jaime Henderson went 1-1 on the day...Henderson polished off a player from Henderson, while losing 4-8 to a Center player...Dylan Perry & Israel Garcia fell to units from Nacogdoches and Pine Tree...In boy’s “B” doubles, Kaleb Whitten & Andres Ferretiz split their matches...They opened up with an 8-0 hammering of a duo from Henderson. Later in the day they regrouped to win, 8-1, over a Hallsville team.
