2A Area Softball: Troup gets the brooms out for Central Heights

Lady Tigers to play district rival Harmony in regional quarterfinals

CUSHING — After winning game one in extra innings,7-5 on Friday night, the Troup Lady Tigers made it a two-game sweep to close out Central Heights softball season with an 8-3, in Class 2A, Region III Area round game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at GalKats Field.

Troup pitcher, Josee Ross went the distance on the mound, adding a big double in a five-run third inning as Troup took a 7-0 lead. The Lady Tigers cranked out four hits, taking advantage of two of five critical Lady Blue Devil errors in the game during the rally.

Ross, a sophomore, smashed her double to score her catcher, and SFA-bound catcher, Katelyn Standley to begin the five-run rally. Joining Standley and Ross reaching base and scoring in the stanza were Lee Ann Lloyd, McKenzie Hugghins, and Ronni Boyer in the rally.

Central Heights answered back with the first of three, one-run innings in the game when losing pitcher, Brittany Crawford hit her first RBI-single to score battery-mate, Kate Rice. Rice filled her role in the lead off spot going 3 for 4 with two double, and scored all three Central Heights runs.  

Ross struck out five Lady Blue Devil hitters, walked none, and scattered out nine hits to notch the win. Ross now has 256 strikeouts on the year.

Crawford sat four Lady Tigers down on strikes, walked four, and scattered seven hits.

Troup (23-5), advances to play Harmony (time, date, location to be announced) in the regional quarterfinal round in late week.
