JACKSONVILLE — JC Women's Soccer: Gonzalez plucks three from John Tyler program

TYLER — Jacksonville head women's soccer coach Rafael Gonzalez has tapped into a talent-rich pool at John Tyler High School to nab JC's latest batch of signees. Last week Lady Lions, Karla Hernandez, Leslie Jaramillo and Sulema Median inked letters to become members of JC's very first women's soccer team, which is scheduled to premier in August. The threesome were a big part of John Tyler's playoff success the past two seasons.

Two Bullard High student trainers to advance on to next level

BULLARD — A pair of Bullard High School seniors, Samantha Miller and Taylor Allbritton, will continue their respective careers in athletic training at the college level. BISD head athletic trainer Jeff “Doc” Shrode recently announced that Miller will be an athletic trainer at Tyler Junior College upon graduation, while Allbritton will be a couple of miles down the road tending to the Patriots of UT-Tyler.

Jacksonville College announces 'Summer of Soccer'

Jacksonville College will be conducting soccer camps as well as 7 vs. 7 leagues this summer, according to JC head soccer coach Rafael Gonzalez. The soccer camps will be held June 10-13, July 8-11 and July 22-25. There is a $50 registration fee per player. Soccer skills, fundamentals and teamwork will be taught. The Summer League 7 vs. 7 will have division for U6, U8, U10, U12 and U14 and will be played on Tuesday and Thursdays (June 4-July 30). Cost is $250 per team and their is a 10-player maximum per unit. For more information on either the soccer camps or the Summer League 7 vs. 7, call Gonzalez (903-393-2848).

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Athlon Sports, publisher of the No. 1-selling college football magazine, has announced that the Texas A&M Aggies have been named the No. 9 team in its preseason Top 25 poll. The countdown commences every year at www.AthlonSports.com in early May and leads to the on-sale date of Athlon's category-leading college football preseason annuals on May 28.
