Francisco Parra tossed in 19 points, Wendle Thomas added 15 and Angel Marroquin scored a dozen as New Summerfield coasted by Riverday Academy of Coushatta, La., 67-28, Thursday afternoon in a first round game of the New Summerfield Tip-Off Tournament, which runs through Saturday evening.

The Hornets (2-0) of head coach Sunny Hardy will now meet Martin’s Mill at 5:50 p.m. Friday in a semi-final test.

New Summerfield raced out to take a 27-2 lead after one quarter of play and never were seriously challenged.

Rebound leaders for New Summerfield were Marroquin with 12, Thomas who hauled down eight boards and Case Wilkerson with seven.

The Hornets shot 48-percent (29-of-61) from the field.

Completing the scoring for the Hornets was, William Ramsey with seven, Wilkerson with six, Julio Rubio and Chris Hansen with three apiece and Devin Abercrombie who pumped in two points.
