Jacksonville Daily Progress
Alto enters the 2013 seasons with high hopes and lofty predictions – the Mean Sting are ranked No. 2 in Texas Football's pre-season poll Class A-I poll, right behind Mart, a team that eliminated the Jackets from the playoffs last season in what turned out to be then head coach Keith gardner's last game at the helm of the Yellowjacket vessel.
Jacksonville High School graduate Paul Gould is now the man in charge at Alto and Gould's first game as Mean Sting bench boss will come on August 30 when Elkhart's Elks are scheduled for a visit to Alto.
Alto remains at home the following week to entertain Groveton.
The following week the Mean Sting will play the first of two marquee match ups that will take place in the regular season.
On the 11th day of October Alto will travel to Tenaha. The Tigers have also been receiving their share of pre-season hype as is indicated by their No. 1 ranking in Class A-II.
This early-season test should indicate just how strong the Mean Sting are early on, with Gould and company still having nearly a month to tweak things before the District 10-A-I opener at Cushing on the evening of October 11.
The second regular season donnybrook is scheduled to be played at Yellowjacket Stadium the following Friday night Pineland West Sabine travels to Alto.
West Sabine is ranked in the top 10 in Class A-I and this skirmish could decide the loop's district champion.
The Jackets also have the luxury of facing San Augustine, another playoff-caliber team from 10-A-I at home. That game is scheduled for November 1.

Can't miss this one – Oct. 18 vs. Pineland West Sabine … 10-1A-I bragging rights could be determined in this game if things sift out true-to-form … For those that don't mind traveling, Alto's Sept. 13 clash at Tenaha should be barn burner as well.
Key games – Of 10-A-I importance are the games against Pineland West Sabine (see above) and a November 1 encounter with the Wolves of San Augustine in Alto.
Watch out for – Sept. 20 vs. Frankston … The Indians have been known to play Alto tough, regardless of what either team's record is … Jackets must avoid a let down coming out of the Tenaha game.
