A young Bullard Panther 7-on-7 team found the competition fierce on Saturday at the Bullard 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament.
For the record it was, Chapel Hill and Kaufman punched their ticket to the state 7-on-7, Division II championships
Eight teams were represented in the qualifying tournament, and pool games played at Panther Stadium and the Bullard Middle School fields on a hot Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs fought through Pool 2 play undefeated, posting a 53-7 win over T.K. Gorman, and a second round win over Kaufman, 32-7. The third round game was an exciting 26-21 win over Gilmer to put the Bulldogs in the semi-finals.
Shelbyville won Pool Two play and Canton was the runner up to make the semifinals.
Shelbyville bested Bullard 52-14, and Canton 25-20 in the second round before beating Frankston 42-28 to clinch pool play.
The semi-final was a different story however with Kaufman, the Pool One runner up scoring the win over Shelbyville to set up the all-Pool Two finale.
Chapel Hill took down Canton, 41-6 in one semi-final.
Kaufman was the runner up to Chapel Hill in pool play, and advanced to the finals after downing Shelbyville 42-13 in the other semi-final match up.
Chapel Hill fought through the heat and the full slate of games with a 7-0 repeat win over Kaufman to take the title, with both teams now advancing to the state playoffs.
The host team Bullard fell in the opening game to Shelbyville but bounced back to squeak by Frankston 26-25. The Panthers however lost in the third round in a thriller, 48-47 to end their day.

Bullard 26, Frankston 25; Canton 20, Shelbyville 25.
Bullard 47, Canton 48; Shelbyville 42, Frankston 28.
Pool winner was Shelbyville and the runner up was Canton.
Gilmer 14, Kaufman 32; Chapel Hill 53, TK Gorman 6.
Gilmer 73, T.K. Gorman 0; Chapel Hill 32, Kaufman 7.
Chapel Hill 26, Gilmer 21,
Kaufman 34, T.K. Gorman 12.
