Away from the softball diamond Rusk's Sydney Littlejohn and Juliann Bowling are best friends, but in the minds of the District 19-3A softball coaches, they have been deemed as two of the loop's top players.
Littlejohn, a hard-throwing pitcher that stands 6-foot-1, was voted as the circuit's Most Valuable Player, while Bowling, one of the team's leading batters, picked up Offensive MVP honors.
Littlejohn has signed a softball scholarship with University of Alabama of the Southeastern Conference while Bowling will be joining her sister Allison at Texas A&M University.
The pair are scheduled to graduate later this month.
Also receiving superlative mention was Kelsey Blankinship (junior, catcher) who was lauded as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Head coach Ashley Renner's Lady Eagles saw four of their number earn spots onto the All-District First Team.
Sophomore Bailee Gates (third baseman) and first baseman Rachel Miller, a freshman were Rusk's infielders named to the lofty list while outfielders Chelsie Daniels and Gabby Willis also picked up First Team mention — Daniels and Willis are both juniors.
In addition, Rusk placed Kaitlyn Tugwell (second baseman) and outfielder Madison Turner onto the Second Team roll.
Cheyanne Phillips, a reserved pitcher/first baseman, was an Honorable Mention selection.
