JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville High School softball team was looking to parlay its successful non-district campaign into getting off to a fast start in District 16-4A.

Corsicana had other ideas, however.

The Lady Bulldogs forged out 10 hits and took advantage of seven Jacksonville errors and six walks to post a 14-2 win over the Fight'n Maidens in the league opener for both clubs, which was played Tuesday afternoon at a sun-drenched Fight'n Maiden Field.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Highlights for the Fight'n Maidens (8-9, 0-1 16-4A) came late in the game as sophomore Jordane Mallard belted her second over-the-wall home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning when she got a hold of a Sidney Kirk offering and sent it skyward and caroming off of the scoreboard.

Mallard's shot also drove in Mackenzie Crow who had reached base on a infield error to lead off the fifth for Jacksonville.

Kaitlyn Hutson followed Mallard and connected for a single into left field to account for the Maidens' remaining hit.

Kirk struck out nine Jacksonville batters and started off the game by fanning the first seven Jacksonville batters that she faced.

She did not allow single base runner until Crow got aboard.

Crow came on to pitch in the third inning in relief of Maiden starter Nicole Robinson.

Crow worked the final three innings where she struck out five and walked two.

She whiffed the Corsicana (13-7, 1-0) side in the fourth segment.

Lady Bulldog lead off hitter Katy Polk went 3-3 with a triple and a double to lead Corsicana at the plate. She also plated four times and walked once.

The Lady Bulldogs did most of their damage in the third and fifth innings when Corsicana had five runs to score in each inning.

Jacksonville travels to Nacogdoches on Friday (7 p.m.).
