Athens' Anthony Sanders was the District 15-3A Most Valuable Player last season.
He is making a case to earn that honor once again as a four-point play by Sanders ignited Athens to 80-59 victory over Jacksonville Tuesday evening, which gave the No. 23-ranked Hornets their fourth victory of the season over a Class 4A team.
With the score knotted at 11 late in the opening stanza, Sanders was fouled while successful shooting a triple.
He added the free throw to put the Hornets (8-0) up by four and from there Athens went on a 9-0 run and eventually took a 45-29 advantage into the dressing room at the break.
Sanders went on to score 20 points in the game for the winners while Ryan Jefferson added 29 to compliment his 11 rebounds.
Claude Franklin and Daytron Thompson poured in 12 and 10 points, respectively for the Indians, who are now 6-3 on the year.
Raybon Riden flicked in eight for Jacksonville while Chris Cross and Jeremy McAnally put it five points each.
