Guard, Tigers and 'Jackets to join Indians in post season

JACKSONVILLE — Four teams from Cherokee County and southern Smith County have punched their respective tickets into the state football playoffs, with two of those clubs, the Jacksonville Indians and the Troup Tigers, wasting no time in getting their parties started.

Jacksonville (4-6) will battle Lancaster (9-1) in a Class 4A, Region II, Division II bi-district test that is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.Thursday at City Bank Stadium in Forney.

The Tribe are the second-place team out of 16-4A, D-II, while the Tigers finished first in their loop.

Lancaster's only loss came to Red Oak, 17-0, on Oct. 26.

The Tigers have been in the Class 4A top 10 the entire season and own a 26-21 decision over John Tyler. That game took place on Sep. 7 in Lancaster.

Also teeing it up on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. will be the Troup Tigers (9-1) who will be taking on East Chambers (8-2) in a Class 2A, Region III, Division I affair.

That game is scheduled for Abe Martin Stadium on the campus of Lufkin High School.

On Friday night Brook Hill's Guard will carry their 6-4 worksheet all the way out to Midland for a TAPPS, Division II opening round tilt against Midland Christian (9-1).

The Guard were the last team to qualify for post season out of District 2, while the Mustangs won the District 1 championship.

The Alto Yellowjackets will also see their first playoff action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

At that time at West Rusk High School's Bradshaw Stadium the Mean Sting (8-2) will knock heads with Harleton (7-3).

That game will be a Class A, Region III, Division I battle.
