Navarro College, ranked No. 15 in the nation, upset No. 6-ranked Tyler Junior College, 33-24, in a SWJCFC semi-final Saturday afternoon at Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium.
The 8-2 Bulldogs will now face Trinity Valley in Athens this coming Saturday, with the winner to be crowned conference champion.
TJC, also owning an 8-2 record, will have to wait to see if a post-season bowl bid is extended to the team.
Navarro rushers carried 51 times for 374 yards, and proved to be tough for the Apaches to get control of.
Two former Cherokee County high school standouts who are now true freshmen at TJC made positive contributions respectively to the Apaches' cause.
Ex-Jacksonville High School receiver, Dadrian “DD” Franklin had one catch for 38 yards while running back Chaston Bennett, who prepped at Rusk High School, carried three times for nine yards. He also caught one pass for nine yards.
