FORT WORTH —

When a team can shoot 45-percent from 3-point land good things are usually going to happen.

Such was the case for the Jacksonville College Jaguars Monday night as the Jags hit 17-of-38 from behind the arc as JC went on to earn its first win of the year by defeating Texas Wesleyan's junior varsity team, 90-83, at the Sid Richardson Center.

The Jags led 47-34 at intermission.

“The good thing about this win was that we got good production out of lots of players,” JC head coach, Jody Bailey, said.

At the top of the productivity list was sophomore Davvin Hill from Victoria,Texas.

Hill tallied a career-high 32 points to pace JC offensively. He hit 2-of-3 on triples and 16-of-19 from the charity stripe.

“They (Texas Wesleyan) kept fouling Davvin out on the perimeter and with the new rules this year you can't put your hands on the perimeter guys, so that sent Davvin to the free throw line quite a bit and he made his shots,” Bailey said.

Deng Leek recorded his finest game in a Jag uniform as well.

The 7-foot-1 post from Colfax, NC logged a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) to go along with four blocked shots.

“Deng shot 6-of-7 from the field and from the free throw line which is pretty good for a big man,” Bailey said.

Another player of impact for the Jags was Derrick Modest (13 points and seven boards).Modest is a Garland, Texas sophomore.

JC had a strong night at the free throw line, where the Jags canned 78-percent (25-of-32) of their shots.

Next up for the JC guys will be the Hill College-Joe White Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Jags will meet McLennan at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will finish up with host Hill on Saturday afternoon.

“It's real important for us to go down to Hillsboro and finish the week out strong,” Bailey said.
