Mathis, Hammons combine for 17 kills as Jacksonville spikers take 3-1 win over Sandiettes

JACKSONVILLE —  Powered by a combined 17 kills from Keevie Mathis and Gentry Hammons, the Jacksonville Fight'n Maiden volleyball team was able was able to pick up a 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-20) decision over Grapeland Tuesday night in Grapeland.

With the victory the Maidens improve to 10-15 on the year.

Mathis led the Jacksonville attack with 10 spikes, followed by Hammons with seven and Shelbi Laney who accounted for five kills. Chancii Scott also got into the scoring action by tallying four spikes.

Mikaela Ross and Laney sparked Jacksonville from the service line, totaling four and two service aces each.

In receiving, Alana Jeffcoat topped out with 41 passes, Kelly Crosby had 40, followed by Kennison Chambless and Laney, who made 40 and 33 good passes apiece.

The Fight'n Maidens will host Brook Hill at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

On Tuesday Jacksonville entertains Tatum at 6:30 p.m.

Sub-varsity scores: (freshmen) Jacksonville 2, Grapeland 0 (25-12, 25-12); (junior varsity) Jacksonville 2, Grapeland 0 (25-22, 25-17).
